Hootsuite: The Veteran That’s Showing Its Age

Hootsuite was the original social media management platform. But after years of competitors innovating, it’s no longer the automatic choice.

My Experience

I’ve moved most clients away from Hootsuite to Buffer or Sprout Social. The interface feels dated, pricing is steep, and competitors offer better experiences.

What Hootsuite Still Does Well

  1. Comprehensive Platform - Every feature you might need exists. Scheduling, monitoring, analytics, team management—it’s all there.

  2. Enterprise Scale - For large organizations managing dozens of accounts, Hootsuite’s permissions and workflows handle the complexity.

  3. Social Listening - Monitor brand mentions, industry keywords, and competitor activity across social channels.

  4. Network Coverage - Supports all major networks including TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube.

Where Hootsuite Falls Short

The interface hasn’t modernized. Pricing is higher than competitors. Publishing limits on lower tiers are frustrating. Mobile apps lag behind.

Who Should Still Use Hootsuite

  • Enterprise teams with complex requirements
  • Agencies managing many clients
  • Organizations already invested in it
  • Teams needing comprehensive listening

The Bottom Line

Hootsuite works but isn’t the best value anymore. For most teams, Buffer or Sprout Social offer better experiences at better prices.
